PURPOSE:To perform nondestructive analysis, by measuring neutrons emitted from a radioactive waste solidified body, and estimating alpha radioactivity in the solidified body from the total neutron generation rate per alpha radioactivity. CONSTITUTION:A nearly uniform solidified body of radioactive waste has a neutron generation rate nearly proportional to alpha radioactivity. This proportional relation is utilized to measure neutrons in the solidified body, and the neutron generation rate is found from the measured value to estimate and quantify the alpha radioactivity. Thus, the alpha radioactivity in the radioactive waste solidified body is quantified without destruction. |
