A heap whose cross-section decreases steadily around an arc of a circle is formed by a rotary distributor(7) driven by a motor (8) in a reciprocating manner about a vertical shaft(6). Material from a conveyor(9) is lifted by a transporter to the roof of the blending store and discharged onto the distributor. The motor is controlled by an integrating weighter(11) associated with the transporter which emits a signal when a predetermined mass of material has been recorded, and the limit of angular rotation of the distributor is shifted by a constant amount. The reciprocating distributor may be replaced by an opposed pair in continuous & uniform rotation.
