PURPOSE:To prevent the carrying of the inclusions in a tundish into a mold by providing a gate having a specific notch in the tundish. CONSTITUTION:A gate 1 disposed in a tundish 2 is opened with a notched part 3 of, for example, a rectangular shape at the center in the top end part thereof. For the size of the part 3, the length w in a breadthwise direction is set at w/W=0.1-0.5 when the length in the breadthwise direction of the gate 1 is defined as W and the height as H. The height (h) of the gate in the central part is set in a range of h/H=0.3-0.8. Thus, the improvement in the quality of steel by an accelerated floating effect of inclusions, the improvement in product yield owing to a decrease in the quantity of the remaining steel in the tundish 2 and the reduction of costs are made possible. |
