The invention relates to a regulating device for the operation of multi-position drives in band belt conveyors, which prevents excessive stressing or tearing of the conveyor belt, thereby increasing the lives of conveyor belts and drives. The problem arising from these objectives is defined as the almost total exclusion of the development of dynamic longitudinal oscillations in the conveyor belt and the starting of additional drive elements largely without slippage. The object is achieved by arranging a movement sensor which is in contact with the conveyor belt behind each additional drive element in relation to the direction of movement of the conveyor belt, which movement sensor is coupled to the motor of the respective additional drive element. <IMAGE>
