<p>Multilayer bullet-proof screens comprise a combination of sets of panels of hard material, such as glass or armour plate, and sets of panels of softer tough materials, specifically polycarbonate or polyacrylate, sepd. by an air gap which pref. is at least as wide as the max. length of the largest ammunition which the screen is intended to resist. For transparent screens, one pref. structure comprises 4 sheets of toughened glass, each 1.5-4 mm. thick, with interlayers of polyvinylbutyral, sepd. by a peripheral spacer (of butyl rubber contg. desiccant filler particles) from two to four sheets of polycarbonate typically 4.5 mm. thick, bonded together by a silicone modified polycarbonate resin and pref. covered on their exposed surface with a layer of anti-shatter film. Screens are used for protecting personnel in e.g. money kiosks, military vehicles etc.</p> |
