The appts. includes a vertical shaft carrying a rotor within a stator. The rotor has a single integral bearing including an arrangement for oiling the shaft with a continuously renewed film of oil. A reservoir of oil surrounds the base of the shaft and a wick or felt transfers oil from the reservoir to the shaft. Helical grooves on the shaft ensure that the oil is carried upwards as the shaft rotates. A disc on the shaft serves to interrupt the flow of oil and guide it back down towards the reservoir. An anti-friction pad of synthetic material also lines the bearing allowing free movement of the rotor in the direction opposite to that in which the bearing is self-lubricating.
