PURPOSE:To permit cutting of an ingot to sure ingot length in desired positions by providing an arithmetic control means which determines the positions for measuring and cutting the ingot length from the relative position relations between the body of a cutter and the ingot. CONSTITUTION:An ingot 2 is transferred into an arrow direction, and when the preceding end of the ingot 2 arrives at a phototube 8, a detection signal is applied to a setting means 9 for correcting value and a gate circuit 14, which stores a position detecting value l' into a storage circuit 15. On the other hand, measurement is started with a length measuring roll 6 and an encoder 7, and a relative distance S is fetched with a counter 18 and is inputted to comparators 16, 19. A storage circuit 21 stores the cutting length L of the ingot 2 beforehand, and compares the cutting length L and the distance S in a comparator 20. Since the coincidence of the set value L and the measured value S indicates that the distance between a flowpipe 1A and the preceding end of the ingot 2 attains the cutting length L; therefore, the output thereof gives a command to a body 1 of a cutter through an output circuit 22, then the cutter starts cutting by the gas released from the flowpipe 1A and the oxygen supplied therefrom while traveling with the ingot 2. |
