Vinyl carboxylates are obtained by reacting ethylene, molecular oxygen and carboxylic acids in the gaseous phase in the presence of a palladium oxide catalyst supported on an inert carrier and an activator comprising at least one salt of a strong inorganic base and of an oxygen-containing acid which is dissociated by not more than 50% in 1N aqueous solution. Specified activators are salts of oxygen-containing acids of boron, carbon, silicon, phosphorus, arsenic or antimony. |
