A safety device on a height-adjustable table, in particular a drafting table, is specified which automatically releases the fixing brake (76, 78) assigned to the telescopic guide when the pressure in a gas spring (28), provided for weight compensation of the moved table parts, has sunk due to leakage to the extent that the weight compensation can no longer be carried out. For this purpose, a power sensor (32-42) is incorporated in the power-transmission route between the table top (10) and the standing frame (22, 24) of the drafting table, which power sensor acts via a mechanical coupling transmission on the brake actuating linkage (70, 72) in the brake release direction.
