Magnetic recording media, in particular for video recording, consisting of a nonmagnetic backing material and a magnetisable layer thereon which contains finely dispersed anisotropic magnetic material and nonmagnetic fillers in an organic polymeric binder and standard auxiliaries, and needle-shaped chromium dioxide and/or needle-shaped ferromagnetic metal particles essentially consisting of iron as an additive which limits the optical transparency of the magnetisable layer to not more than 50%.
