The invention relates to a device for sealing the writing tip of writing instruments writing with liquid, such as ink, on automatic labelling appliances against the writing liquid drying up during intervals. It consists of a setting-down device which accommodates the writing tip when the predetermined duration of an interval has been exceeded, is arranged at an appropriate point outside the writing area and seals off the flow cross-section of the writing tip. The setting-down device in the form of a plate, a sheath, a conical receptacle gap or the like is fitted with a soft elastic material. The special advantage of the device according to the invention lies in the fact that the writing tip can immediately be used for writing again after any duration of interval and in a satisfactory manner. <IMAGE>
