An essentially pressure-free heat accumulator with a floating cover (8). Directly below the floating cover, there is suspended thereon an upper distributor (14) of flat design for the liquid heat transfer medium, while just such a lower distributor (16) is situated directly above the bottom (18) of the tank (2) concerned. Both distributors communicate with the relevant supply and removal pipes (32, 34) via a vertical pipe (24) which at the same time can form a support for a fixed roof (6) of the tank. The relevant arrangement and design of the distributors guarantees, even with a relatively large travel of the floating cover, optimum temperature layering of the heat transfer medium. <IMAGE>
