PURPOSE:To measure the outside circumferential length of moving objects and objects having varying outside circumferences continuously when needed with high accuracy by operating the same from the difference between the specified length up to a reference point and the actually measured length in straight parts. CONSTITUTION:The length of a measuring belt including the outside circumferential length of an object to be measured from the end (a) of a stationary terminal 3 up to a reference point 9 out of said belt 2 is set and is inputted to an arithmetic device 8. When a steel pipe 1 is set, the terminal 3 is moved horizontally by means of a cylinder 5 for setting the stationary terminal via a stationary arm 4 so that the terminal is fitted tightly to the pipe 1. Thereafter, the frictional force between the pipe 1 and the belt 2 and the tension which is so set as not to give any plastic deformation to the band 2 are exerted by a cylinder 6 for setting the measuring band and are held as they are. At the point of the time when the band 2 moves no longer, the distance between the predetermined reference point 9 of the band 2 and the end (a) of the terminal 3 is measured with a length measuring device 7 and an input signal is fed to the device 8. Upon receiving the input signal, the device 8 operates the outside circumferential length by the signal for the reference length. |
