PURPOSE:To eliminate erroneous diagnoses owing to faults or defective mounting of sensors and to perform diagnosis always accurately by constituting a diagnosing device in such a way that the sensors are self-diagnosed prior to diagnosing of the functions of automobiles. CONSTITUTION:12 is a storage device for contents of self-diagnoses which stores beforehand the inspecting steps and items for the self-diagnoses of sensors, and 13 is a storage device for the reference values of the self-diagnoses which stores beforehand various kinds of reference values that are references for the self- diagnoses. When an engine is started and assumes an idling state, a control unit 9 reads out the inspection contents of the self-diagnoses stored in the device 12 and performs the control complying with said contents. The signals of the respective sensors in a sensor group 2 are taken into the control unit. The reference values (self-diagnosis data ) stored in the device 13 are read out and the signals of the sensors and the reference values are compared with a judging device 7. When the number of the sensors having abnormality is large, the accurate self-diagnosis cannot be performed any longer and therefore if said number is large, at first all the sensors are checked. |
