The invention relates to an apparatus for sawing off small wooden blocks, in particular wooden paving blocks, from profiled wooden bars joined together in layers. According to the invention, the profiled wooden bars are clamped between two guide rails running parallel to one another. Movably held on the guide rails are pressing rails which can be pressed laterally against the profiled wooden bars both in the clamping direction and simultaneously in the longitudinal direction. As a result, it is advantageously possible to advance the layer of profiled wooden bars in steps and to saw off blocks therefrom, it being advantageously possible for the sawing to take place when the pressing rails are no longer pressed against the layer of profiled wooden bars, since they are moved back into their starting position in the longitudinal direction of the guide rails. Consequently, accident-free sawing of the wooden paving blocks with a high output is possible. <IMAGE>
