In this method, the H and V deflection signals are magnified in such a manner that the target (1) is significantly overscanned by the scanning raster (2). The scanning raster (2) is then sub-divided into four equally large part-rasters (I, II, III, IV) by division in the centre of the H and V direction and the video signal of these part-rasters is determined. After that, these part-raster signals are compared with one another and from this adjustment signals for the H and V alignment coils (36, 37) are derived.
