In an adjusting device for an internal shoe brake having a strut (12) which connects the free ends of the brake shoes (4, 5) and can be extended by the pivoting movement of a lever (17), the transmission element (24) for pivoting the lever (17) is connected to the brake shoe (5) supported on the strut (12) in the principal direction of rotation during braking. At one end, the transmission element (24) is held by an adjustable nut (29) which is supported via a compression spring (31) against a lug (27) fixed to the brake anchor plate. With the brake released, the compression spring (31) ensures a clearance(s) between the nut (29) and the lug (27). The brake release clearance can be set by setting the clearance(s). <IMAGE>
