In order to prevent evaporation of water, the water surface on the roof is covered by transparent floats. These are matched in shape to the roof courses. On their end faces they have bolts which are located in vertical guides. This renders it possible both to tilt the floating covers with the aid of hydraulic presses that are mounted on transverse beams spanning the water (Fig. 1), and to vary the amount of water on the roof (Fig. 2). This, in turn, is of interest in mountainous areas, because then the water can flow from a roof at a higher elevation to a roof at a lower elevation, electric energy being obtained via a turbine and generator. The two water-lens roofs at different elevations thus fulfil in conjunction with the elements generating the electric energy the function of a pumping power station when the water is pumped upwards from below in conditions of sunshine. <IMAGE>
