A high-temperature steel for a high-temperature gas furnace which has excellent oxidation resistance and high-temperature strength in impure helium is composed of 0.02 to 0.2% by weight carbon, 0.05 to 2.0% by weight silicon, 0.05 to 2.0% by weight manganese, 8 to 15% by weight chromium, 8 to 13.5% by weight nickel, less than 0.3% by weight aluminium, 3.5 to 8% by weight molybdenum and 0.01 to 1.0% by weight in each case of titanium and niobium, alone or in combination, the rest being iron and impurities which are unavoidable in the melting operation.
