The invention relates to a controlled thyristor bridge circuit having turn-on pulse inhibiting devices which respond to an excessive current, sampling devices being provided by means of which, when the inhibiting devices are activated for at least one thyristor, turn-on pulses can be generated periodically in one of the bridge arms, and enabling devices being provided, by means of which the turn-on pulse inhibition can be overridden when the excessive current condition is absent during at least one sampling process.
