An obstetric forceps for animals, in particular pigs, comprises two levers which are held together at their bearing point by a bolt and the lower ends of which form grips while the upper ends carry gripping arms. The gripping arms which are connected to one another so as to be rotatable by a bolt are located at the lever ends with interposition of joints. The joints lie adjacent to each other between the connection point of the two levers and the connection point of the gripping arms. The distances between the joints and the connection point of the two levers are about three times the distances between the joints and the connection point. In the region of the jaw of the forceps the gripping arms are equipped with teeth. The lower lever ends carry a locking device which can be blocked in different positions and prevents pivoting of the levers in its locked position. Finger loops are provided at the lower lever ends.
