973,794. Delivering measured quantities of granular material. PHILLIPS PETROLEUM CO. Oct. 8, 1963 [Oct. 29, 1962], No. 39573/63. Heading B8N. A rotary device for dispensing measured quantities of granular material, such as chromium oxide, comprises a tapered rotor 14 having one or more peripheral measuring cavities 80 adapted to communicate with an inlet 82 and outlet 84, and a tapered bearing sleeve 52 for the rotor having a number of recesses 53, at least one being in communication with a source of flushing fluid and at least one communicating with the exterior of the rotor housing 24. The rotor, which may be of polytetrafluoroethylene, is slidable on a shaft 10 and keyed thereto, the rotor being urged into sealing contact with the bearing sleeve 52 by means of an adjustable spring-plunger 74; clearance 76 is provided between the end of the shaft 10 and a thrust plate 66 in order to allow for axial movement of the rotor as wear takes place. One of the recesses 53 is provided with a port 55a communicating with a source of pressurized flush fluid, such as water, via a conduit 55 having a tap 57, the other recesses communicating with the outet 84 via spaces 78, 79. |
