The invention relates to a cooling device on blow-moulding machines for cooling the upper flash on hollow articles. In order to ensure that even the flash which, given the way in which customary blow-moulding machines operate, protrudes upwards over the blow mould is also cooled, it is proposed by the invention that the cooling device squeezes together this still plastic material of the upper flash onto the mould or onto a cooling plate fitted onto the mould, spreads it apart and thereby cools the upper flash. The cooling device is preferably integrated in the movement sequence of the mandrel and/or forms a self-contained unit with the mandrel holder. The cooling device is equipped with springs, which ensure any compensation which becomes necessary.
