A DC voltage converter without a transformer, having a capacitor chain, which is formed from at least two capacitors and is connected by semiconductor switches (which are controlled in a continuously alternating manner) in a series circuit to a current supply source during a charging phase, and in a parallel circuit to a load during a discharging phase. In this case, the semiconductor switches for the discharge are arranged between in each case one capacitor terminal and the one load terminal, while the other capacitor terminals are connected via semiconductor rectifiers, which pass current in the discharge direction, to the other load terminal and are arranged between the capacitors, which are connected in series, of the semiconductor rectifiers which pass current in the charging direction. <IMAGE>
