The invention deals with an advance column (1) for strengthening a shaft lining, in particular of a tubbing column (2), in a sunk shaft. This advance column (1) consists of precast reinforced-concrete segments (3) which form precast rings placed one on top of the other and have vertical joints (4) and horizontal joints (5) between the precast segments (3). In order to counteract compressive strain, dragging and bending of the shaft tubes, the horizontal joints (5), with compensation plates (8) in between, are bridged by means of steel sealing rings (9, 10, 11) anchored in the precast segments (3) and form on the inside of the column an encircling annular groove (13) filled with joint mortar (12). A steel sealing shell can consequently be dispensed with if the vertical joints (4) are also filled by means of a joint mortar (12). <IMAGE>
