In order to increase the efficiency and to reduce the cold running phase in diesel engines a fuel preheater in the form of a copper pipe which is wound in approximately 12 closely adjacent turns about the forward exhaust pipe is used. One end of the copper pipe is connected by means of a section of hose to the fuel pump, the other end to the fuel filter. The diesel fuel which is now fed through the copper coil is subject to very rapid preheating by way of the exhaust during the very first working cycles of the engine, thereby reducing the cold running phase and the resultant disadvantages such as increased wear.
