The invention relates to the utilisation of the power for low-loss generation of the drive in aircraft driven by muscle power. The available power is supplied to the system in the form of potential energy, by lifting a mass element and hence the total centre of gravity while obviating the power losses which occur, for example, in the case of propeller drives and the complex kinematics and mechanisms which are required in the case of reciprocating drives. One possibility for use is to improve the effective gliding angle, or to reduce the sink rate of hang gliders and gliders.
