An asbestos-free composition for use as a lining for floats, nozzles, plates and hot-top mould inserts in the casting of aluminium and aluminium alloys is described. The composition contains ceramic fibre, kaolin and coating cement, which is present at least superficially, at a density from 0.6 to 1.50 g/cm<3> and a thermal conductivity in the range from 0.20 to 0.35 W/m.K. The composition, which is obtained by mixing the constituents with the addition of a little water, and, if appropriate waterglass, subsequent heating and shaping treatment, has many possible uses and a long service life. |
