The halogen-free and water-soluble fluxing agent contains, as the active component, an aromatic organic acid having at least one sulpho group (SO3H) or a derivative thereof. Examples of these are benzenesulphonic acid, m-benzenedisulphonic acid, benzene-1,3,5-trisulphonic acid, water-soluble metal salts of these acids or hydrates of these acids and metal salts thereof.
