In the case of a light alloy piston with combustion chamber trough arranged in the piston head, the edge of the trough is reinforced by an insert (10) composed of a copper alloy coated with a ferrous layer and provided with expansions filled with the piston material. In order to cater for particularly high stresses on the edge of the combustion chamber trough in the connecting rod oscillation plane, the recesses of the insert are each applied over a range of 10 to 35 DEG on both sides of the planes running at an angle of 45 DEG to the connecting rod oscillation plane.
