A vending system for weight-related products uses a plurality of keyboard-operable calculating and printing balances which inscribe on an interim receipt the weight-related product data of a purchasing transaction, such as the individual amounts of the products thus acquired, the final amount of the purchasing transaction and, if appropriate, the weights and unit prices of the individual products. The vending system also includes a set of cash registers which are themselves equipped with a printer for a final receipt which concludes all the purchasing transactions of a particular customer and in which at least the final amounts of the various purchasing transactions and their total amount are recorded in terms of the products data. In order to provide an inexpensive vending system which is operationally reliable and which is simple to handle, both the balances and the printers are connected in terms of data transfer to a central memory which is divided into data blocks with a predetermined block address. The product data of a purchasing transaction which are obtained on the balances are stored in these data blocks according to a predetermined sequence and the associated block address is inscribed on the interim receipt in a machine-readable code script. This can be detected by a reading device of the particular cash register used and calls up the associated product data of the respective data block into the computer of the cash register, where they are taken into account in the preparation of the final receipt.
