PURPOSE:To provide an ion-exchange membrane to which a metal excellent in durability is fixed, by forming a layer involving a sulfonic acid group with a specific thickness on a cation-exchange membrane having a carboxyl group layer on the cathode side and then applying chemical plating onto said layer. CONSTITUTION:In a cation-exchange memberane having a carboxyl group layer, a layer involving a sutfonic acid group is formed, in a thickness ranging from 0.01 to 5mu, on the layer. Then, a metal (e.g., platinum or palladium) is fixed to the layer by chemical plating, yielding a cation-exchange memberance. In this method, the cation-exchange membrane may be composed of a carboxyl group layer only or a multiple layer of carboxyl and sulfonic acid groups. |
