PURPOSE:To suppress the heating of an unnecessary element as well as to obtain a stabilized and high output single giant pulse laser oscillation by a method wherein, when excitation energy is supplied to a laser element, said excitation energy is intermittently supplied in accordance with the laser oscillation. CONSTITUTION:In between the reflecting mirror 2' located on the laser output side and the total reflection mirror 3' for laser, a Q-switching circuit 4', consisting of a laser element 1', a deflector 41', and a Q-switch 42', are connected in series. Also an excitation circuit 5', consisting of a discharge tube 51' for excitation, a trigger generator 52' and the like, is provided along the element 1, and one of the electrode located in the discharge tube 51' is connected to an exciting power storage circuit 6' containing a DC power source 61'. Through these rocedures, circuits 4', 5' and 6' are controlled using an operation controlling circuit 7' in such a manner that an excitation power supply controlling circuit 8, consisting of a gate turn-OFF thyristor 81 and a driver 82, is newly added and arranged in between the circuits 5' and 6', and an ON-OFF switching operation is performed on the excitation energy to be applied to the discharge tube 51' by controlling the circuit 7'. |
