In a cutting, creasing &c. platen press wherein a lower part 2 is reciprocated vertically towards and away from a fixed part 1, and sheets are fed between the parts from a sheet-seizing position 31 to a working position 311 by gripper bars 3 on a pair of endless chains 4, the bars are registered at each position by a pair of stops 61, 611 which can be oscillated about their own pivots, can be raised and lowered bodily, and can be reciprocated bodily in the direction of movement of the chains, these movements being performed in synchronism with the movements of the platen part 2. The arrangement is such that the stops 61 or 611 are raised into the path of the appropriate bar 3, moved towards the bar, stopped, then moved in the same direction as the bar so that when the bar engages the stops they are both decelerating, until the sheet and bar are brought into registered position. As described, each stop 611 is oscillatable about a pivot 46, Fig. 4, on a bar 12, by a link 40 and a member 41 pivoted at 43 also on the bar 12: in the register position shown, the pivots of the link 40 and the pivot 43 are in a straight line, and the stop 611 is therefore rigid. The bar 12 is reciprocated horizontally in a frame 10 by means of a camoperated rod 16, and linkages 17, 18, and the stop 611 is oscillated by a cam-operated link 26. Further, the frame 10 itself is reciprocated vertically by cam-operated links 21, 22 in a fixed framework 11. The top 101 of the frame 10 has members 48, 49 pivoted thereto to act as chain guides, and the chains 4 and gripper bar 3 are raised by these parts when the frame 10 is raised. The movement of the bar 12 to the left is limited by a screw-stop 13. A pair of stops 61 register a gripper bar at position 31, and these are operated by mechanism similar to that for the stops 611.
