<p>PURPOSE:To obtain methacrolein in high yield, by oxidation of t-butanol with O2 in the presence of a specific catalyst comprising Sm and a slight amount of Ni, and controlling the form ation of hardly separable isobutyl aldehyde to trace amounts. CONSTITUTION:t-Butanol is oxidized with O2 in the presence of a catalyst of the formula (X is K, Rb, Cs, etc.; Z is B, Co, Si, Au, Ag, etc.; Q is at least one element selected from Gd, Sc, etc.; a is 0.05-5; b is 0.05-10; c is 0.1-10; d is 0.01-3; e is 0.05-5; f is 0-10; g is 0-5; h is the number of 0 atoms) comprising Sm as its characteristic constituent and a slight amount of Ni, to give methacrolein. EFFECT:Safe and economical catalyst free from toxic elements such as As and Te.</p> |
