PURPOSE:To provide an apparatus for controlling the ignition timing of an internal combustion engine to render the internal pressure of a combustion chamber maximum at a prescribed crank angle position, which is designed to prevent occurrence of knocking by delaying the ignition timing gradually when the knocking is detected. CONSTITUTION:Numeral 1 represents an arithmetic means, which consists of a CPU 2, an input-output control circuit 3, a ROM 4 and a RAM 5. A pressure sensor 10 consists of a piezo-electric element and produces a pressure signal corresponding to the pressure in a combustion chamber. Further, a knocking detecting circuit 11 includes a band-pass filter, a rectifying circuit and a comparator. With such an arrangement, the ignition timing of an internal combustion engine is controlled such that the pressure in the combustion chamber becomes maximum at a prescribed crank angle position. On the other hand, when the knocking is detected, the ignition timing is delayed gradually, whereby it is enabled to operate the engine efficiently while preventing occurrence of the knocking. |
