N-chlorophthalimide (I), N-chlorosuccinimide and N-chloroglutarimide were prepd. by chlorination of the corresponding imides in the presence of polyvinylpyridine copolymer of 1-10% crosslinking under anhyd. condition. Thus, Cl was introduced into 2.45g 4-vinylpyridine-divinylbenzene copolymer in CH2Cl2 followed by reaction with 50 mmol phthalimide and 3 drops of quinoline and the mixt. stirred 5 hr at room temp. to give 95.9% (I). |
