1487326 Brake booster and control devices AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS Ltd 18 Nov 1974 [22 Nov 1973] 54255/73 Addition to 1432350 Heading F2F An improvement in or modification of the brake control device of Specification 1,432,350 has a barrier which separates the space between the piston 16 and the valve spool 34 into two chambers 57, 66 one of which is bounded by the piston 16 and the other by the spool 34, and a passage 31 which connects the first port 29 to one chamber so that liquid can flow freely from the first port 29 to the one chamber and the first port 29 is in restricted communication with the other chamber via a space between rod 49 and a bush 64 allowing braking pressure to build up slowly. Actuation of the brake pedal moves a plunger 38 and hence spool 34 and is transmitted to piston 16 through a spring 52 and rod 49 cutting off communication between wheel cylinders and reservoir and placing a port 33 in communication with port 29 to supply liquid under pressure from an accumulator to the brake cylinders. Liquid pressure in an annular chamber 66 provides resistance to braking by acting on the end of spool 34 and providing "feel". In the event of pressure failure the pedal can operate the piston 16 via rods 48, 49. |
