PURPOSE:To provide the titled printer capable of using an ink ribbon wastelessly and economically, by a method wherein after printing in one color of a multicolor ink ribbon, the ribbon is wound up backwards and then printing is conducted by another color. CONSTITUTION:When printing by feeding a carrier 25 in the +X direction is executed, a thermal head 19 is pressed against a platen 18 through the multicolor ink ribbon 22 and a printing paper 17. When the carrier 25 (in the -X direction is returned), the head 19 is separated from the platen 18. After printing by using a red region 22R of the ribbon 22, the ribbon 22 is wound up backwards by the amount consumed in red-color printing, the carrier 25 is simultaneously reset to a home position, and when a plurality of lines are printed, the printing paper 17 is also fed backwards to an initial position. The ribbon 22 is shifted in the vertical direction by an amount equal to the width l of one color region, and printing by using a green region 22G and that by using a blue region 22B are conducted similarly. |
