<p>The underwater seal is for the sliding bottom door of a dredger hopper etc. movable along a discharge opening. It comprises profiled rubber portions (7) around the opening and mounted in a frame (5), and subjected to hydraulic pressure moving them towards and away from the door. Each portion can have a widened head (8) towards the inside of the frame, working in a chamber (9) to which fluid under pressure can be admitted, while a narrower section extends towards the door. Between the two sections and on both sides is a chamber (15) permanently filled with fluid under pressure, so that the portion is forced upwards when pressure is released from the upper chamber (9).
