1353873 α-Olefins SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 14 July 1972 [16 July 1971 (2)] 33032/72 Heading C5E [Also in Division B1] Linear α-olefins are produced by the oligomerization in the liquid phase of ethylene in the presence of a catalyst produced by contacting a divalent Ni salt, a boron hydride and a tertorganophosphorus compound containing at least one carboxy or alkali carboxylato group in the presence of ethylene and a polar solvent. The preferred catalytic materials an NiCl 2 , NaBH 4 and 0-(dihydrocarbylphosphino) benzoic acid or alkali metal salt thereof, or a phosphino acetic acid or salt thereof. The oligomers exemplified are in the C 12 -C 20 range and can be separated into an upper, intermediate and lower olefin fraction. The intermediate is recovered as product and the others are subjected to double bond isomerization followed by disproportionation and separation into a second lower, intermediate and higher olefin fraction. The isomerization process is then repeated. |
