A device for checking the clamping pressure of an electrical socket junction comprises a tool from which a bent spring strip is supported as a cantilever so that the free end overlaps a second bar itself cantilevered from between stress or strain gauges so that deflection of the second bar indicates the stress level applied by the socket fitting in accepting the bent section of the first bar. Several such bent strip/strain transducer systems can be mounted in parallel, close together (e.g. at a pitch of 2.54 mm.) to allow all the sockets of a flat multi-socket cable junction to be checked simultaneously and independently - saving much time in that aspect of quality control during socket mfr. The transducer is pref. a piezo electric leaf based on monoammonium phosphate crystals, or a ceramic crystal based on Pb Zr titanate or Ba titanate aligned at 45 degrees to the Z axis and sensitive to displacements of about 10 microns, for checking probe compression of the order of tenths to hundredths of a mm. Typically the piezoelectric leaves may be 12.7 x 1.5 x 0.7 mm. section: the dimension and characteristics, e.g. stiffness of the bent probe are not specified, except for the probe bend being through 180 degrees and the free end being stepped outwards to accommodate the tip of the transducer leaf.
|
