<p>The display uses lengths of transparent material (1) which are polished on the outside. One end of each length is near to a source of light (9) so that light introduced into the lengths is internally reflected and trapped in side. Parts of these rods are not polished, so that light may escape from them - and these same parts are bent to the shape of the required display. A disc carrying coloured filters (8) may be positioned between the light (9) and the transparent rods to change the colour of the display. A lens may be provided to concentrate the rays from source and into the rods.</p> |
