The invention relates to a heat flow calorimeter for measuring the thermal output of a waste drum with radioactive wastes which have a thermal output of up to approx. 300 watts per waste drum by means of establishing a temperature gradient. It is characterised in that the waste drum (1) is surrounded by an absorber jacket (3 to 5) which absorbs the radioactive radiation emanating from the waste drum (1) and is thereby heated, in that at least the cylindrical jacket part (3) of the absorber jacket (3 to 5) is surrounded by a calorimetric block (6), between the inner surface (15) and outer surface (16) of which the temperature gradient is determined, in that the calorimetric block (6) is surrounded by a controllable cooling element (7), and in that the waste drum (1), the absorber jacket (3 to 5), the calorimetric block (6) and the cooling element (7) are accommodated in an outer jacket (9, 13, 17) made of thermally insulating material. <IMAGE>
