<p>The machine for winding coils of wire, produced by continuous casting and rolling, leaves a few turns at the start of the coil, free from strapping placed around the main body of the coil. The coil is wound on an expanding mandrel, between a fixed (3) and a movable flange, with a hitching throat (4) in the fixed flange. Pairs of pivoting fingers (7) are retracted to allow wire access to the throat as winding starts up. They are raised to pick up a required number of turns as winding proceeds, and separate them from the rest of the coil before strapping is put around it.</p> |
