PURPOSE:To obtain a high performance ink jet recorder by using a system in which an ink jet nozzle and an electrode are faced each other by putting an air stream from an air jet nozzle between them and a potential difference is provided between the ink inside the ink jet nozzle and the electrode. CONSTITUTION:The meniscus of ink at an ink jet nozzle 14 during non-recording period is kept at a state 29 by the atmospheric pressure near the ink jet nozzle 14 and also by the static pressure of the ink regulated to a proper value inside the ink jet nozzle 14. When applying a voltage between an electrode 21 and an electrode 17 by a signal source 23, the ink inside the ink jet nozzle 14 is pulled out toward the electrode 21 by an electric field resulting from a potential difference between the electrode 21 and the ink in the ink jet nozzle 14 due to the electrical connection between the electrode 17 and the ink, as shown by 30 in Fig. The ink pulled out by the electric field is bent in the direction of a recording medium 11 by an air flow 12, scattered in the form of torn droplets 13, and adhered to the recording medium 11. |
