PURPOSE:To make it possible to detect broken rice grains exactly and automatically by means of a simple device by leaving rice grains in the water and making them flow with the water and directing light to the flowing rice grains and detecting variation in the amount of light received. CONSTITUTION:An outlet 6 is provided at the deepest part of the bottom of a hopper 1. A light projector 9 and a light-receiving device 10 are arranged respectively above and below a light-passing part 8 of a chute 7, and the output of the light-receiving device 10 is connected to a counting device 11. A certain amount of sample rice grains and water are put into the hopper 1. They are left in it for a few minutes in order to enlarge the difference of the amounts of light passing through regular rice grains and broken rice grains. Then the outlet 6 is opened to make the rice grains flow with the water, and the amount of the passing light is measured when they pass the light passing part 8. If they are broken rice grains, the amount of the passing light becomes smaller in a great deal thatn if they are regular grains. The output of the light-receiving device 10 makes it possible to detect broken rice grains accurately and automatically by means of a simple device. |
