PURPOSE:To prevent the deterioration of a mixed dye system liq. crystal display due to ultraviolet rays and to enable a stable color display over a long time by unitedly forming >=2 adjacent light transmitting thin film layers with different refractive indexes and each light transmitting substrate. CONSTITUTION:A liq. crystal 7 mixed with a dye is held between glass or org. films 3a, 3b having transparent electrodes 4a, 4b of In2O3 or the like covered with org. or inorg. orienting films 5a, 5b on the insides. Light transmitting thin films 2a, 2b of an inorg. compound are formed on the outsides of the films 3a, 3b, and light transmitting thin films 1a, 1b of other inorg. compound different from said compound in refractive index are formed on the films 2a, 2b. The inorg. compounds include SiO, SnO, SiO2, Al2O3, MgO and WO3. Most of ultraviolet light is eliminated from irradiated light, and the deterioration of the dye mixed with the liq. crystal due to ultraviolet light can be prevented. |
