<p>PURPOSE:To facilitate the pattern recognition, by determining the reference position of each pattern in accordance with features of the pattern and obtaining accurate pattern position information by this determination. CONSTITUTION:An original of a hand-written document is scanned by a scanner to read picture information successively, and isolated information such as noise are eliminated in an isolated point eliminating means 1, and character information on a line is extracted from picture information by a character line extracting means 2. This extracted character information is applied to an isolated pattern detecting means 3, and characters included in line components are separated by discontinuity, and position information of each separated isolated pattern is detected. Position information for plural characters are gathered in a base line setting means 4 to set a base line common to respective characters, and this set base line is applied to a base line establishing means 5. Base line information which is updated properly in accordance with features of the isolated pattern of each character is outputted from the means 5, and position information of isolated patterns from the means 3 are outputted as picture information through a buffer 6.</p> |
