The invention relates to a compass saw which is required in butchers' shops for dividing flesh into transportable pieces or pieces suitable for consumers. The saw blade driven in an oscillating manner slides in a fixed saw-blade guide part. Since both parts are made of the same material, the friction which occurs leads to a high build-up of heat and to high wear. It is therefore necessary frequently to change both parts despite low cutting speeds during operation of the saw. In the compass saw according to the invention, a guide rail made of a plain-bearing material is arranged between the saw-blade guide part and the back of the saw blade. Consequently, a substantial reduction in the friction occurs so that, on the one hand, the life of the saw blade and also that of the saw-blade guide part are substantially longer and, on the other hand, the compass saw can be operated at a substantially higher cutting speed. In the saw according to the invention, it is merely necessary to change the saw blade, which may only be necessary if the cutting teeth of the saw blade are worn. <IMAGE>
